Building for the Future
We can offer Mini Tennis Red, Orange and Green groups for children from 4 years upwards as well as Improver groups for teenagers.
Our Mini Tennis Red programme is based in the Main Hall at Fleming Park where we occupy 5 badminton courts after school during the week. We offer recreational sessions as well as basing the majority of our Academy groups in the Main Hall during the early stages of their development. |

Mini Tennis Orange and Green as well as Improvers groups are all based on the 4 outdoor tennis courts or in the indoor courts. All courts are floodlit and we play all-year-round.
It is our opinion that tennis is an outdoor sport and that children should be encouraged to play outside at the earliest possible stage.

How it Works
Groups are available on a course basis whereby participants sign up in and pay in advance. The courses reflect the given school half term and usually run for either 6 or 7 weeks. Sessions cost £5 per week courses run for the equivalent half-term (between 5 and 7 weeks). For further information, please contact us.

Progressive Learning
Our coaching methods are based on many years of experience, not just within tennis, but also within academic teaching. We focus our lessons on continual technical improvement and use structured lesson plans to progress drills within each session to really maximise children's learning potential during the sessions.
The lessons are great fun for the participants as they continue to improve and learn to play competitively.
As children improve, we are able to move them on to the next level and provide a progressive group structure that allows them to do so.
Talent Identification and Tennis Academy
For those children showing an exciting talent for tennis, there is also a performance and competition route available to help them develop. Please read about our Tennis Academy for further information.
Accessing Enhanced Programmes
Our coaching groups are categorised as follows:
- Recreational - 1 group lesson per week
- Development - 2 group lessons per week (10% discount on second lesson)
- Progressive - 2 group lessons plus 1 hitting partner per week
- Performance - 2 group lessons, 1 hitting partner, 1 individual per week
The price of additional coaching would include progressive discounts for increased participation. To explain the difference between hitting partners and individuals, the former is usually for ½ hour with a trainee coach / high level junior and is aimed at increasing the number of balls the player hits in a tactically focussed environment. An individual is with a professional coach and although again for ½ hour, is much more technically focussed.
We think it is fantastic to have lots of recreational players in our programme, however, for those who wish to seek extra opportunities, there are a number of key reasons this might be conisdered:
- By attending 2 hours of group coaching per week instead of 1, contact time with the coach is doubled, allowing repetition of skills and therefore improving muscle memory
- It takes around 800 repetitions of the perfect technique to memorise the muscle movement
- Repetition of correct technique is the key to successfully "automating" tennis strokes. The longer the gap between repetitions, the less likely the brain is to make the movement autonomous
- The more sessions a player attends, the more chance there is to regularly incorporate match practice into the weekly programme
- Increased fitness levels and general improvement in a healthy lifestyle
- Social benefits, including making friends in a group setting, connecting with respected coaches / hitting partners and learning to compete in a constructive environment
